When it comes to fuel efficiency there are a lot of things to consider. Yes, maintaining your vehicle properly will help with its fuel efficiency. But the cost of proper maintenance will be a break even proposition at best as far as fuel mileage is concerned. The real value to maintenence is in preventing break downs and being able to keep the vehicle long after your payments have ended as well as resale value. There are some articles below that dwell into the most common fuel saving tips. In my opinion they are all good things but I would really focus on a few things to save fuel. Plan your travels. Do as much in a trip as possible in the most efficient order as possible. If you have to sit in traffic in the morning, leave earlier. Sitting in traffic equals 0 miles per gallon. Talk to your company about setting hours that go around the heaviest traffic times. Instead of sitting in traffic on your way home do the grocery shopping. Car pooling is great. How about grocery shopping with neighbors. The quick trips will really kill you. You are in the middle of a project and you need something, so you run to the Home Depot only to get back and find out you need something else. Yes, I am guilty of this!! So I think the best fuel savings come from the best planning and avoiding the urge to just hop in your car and go on a whim.
